I currently have a 9ah battery in the forward battery box and a 12ah battery in the larger aft box behind the pilot seat.  I'm looking for a location to put a third battery to run FLARM.  The remaining space in the aft battery box is about 1.3 inches wide but I can't find a battery to fit that volume. For 4-5 hours of FLARM operations, I believe I need at least a 3ah battery.   Any suggestions from Discus owners would be appreciated.

Thanks.

If you have the battery box behind your right shoulder behind the seat back. You could put two of the 9 ah batteries in there instead of one 12ah.

I didn't explain the need for the bigger battery.  I power an SN-10, Cambridge GPS-NAV, radio and SB-9 vario using the 12ah battery. I flew for years with a 9ah battery in that aft box but realized with longer flights I needed a bigger battery.

Yes but your total ah goes to 18ah + your 9ah in front for 27 total. Redistribute the power hookups.

That is a lot of ah.
I run a volkslogger, not gelt 50, ipaq 4700, Becker com on two 7 ah batterys. A terra t 250 on a seperate 12 ah in my nimbus 2 and go 9 hours.

Our club discus has the 3 7 ah set up as I described before and runs a cam 302 with PDA attached, Becker com, and a Becker transponder. I have done a 7 hr flight with no problems. We are going to add a FLARM to it.

Just a thought. Good luck.

Adding FLARM is when my troubles began.  I'd be interested to hear how that works on the club Discus.

Rick,
You can also add a couple more ah's by using the Powersonic 12v 10ah batteries (actually rated at 10.5ah). They are about 3/4 inch taller than the 12/9's which require making a slightly larger retaining strap on the battery tray. I did so by removing the existing fiberglass strap and making a new one out of aluminum (with ten bucks worth of help from a local machine shop who cut and bent the aluminum straps perfectly). This may all be unnecessary if the new LiPo4 batteries live up to their promises. Is anyone using these? The price and newness to our sailplane applications keep me from trying them at the moment.
