Anyone worked with barcode scanners? Are there many different types?

I've been thinking of afixing one above my fridge (to scan things as
they are opened, or bought) and another above the bin to see when they
are finished, or went off. Hopefully combining the two to find what I
buy that I shouldn't (goes off) and what I should buy more of (runs
out too quickly).

That and it'd be fun. I really ought to finish my bike computer thingy
first. I had plenty of time to work on it last week, but I had no
internet! Now I have the internet I have a lot else that needs doing.
*sigh*

Only one I worked with presented a plain (newline teminated, I
believe) text string over RS232 whenever a scan was successful.
Not too much effort :)

I've done a bit. Yes, there are a fair few types in terms of interface standard (Bluetooth, USB, RS232 or PS/2), and form factor and technology (wand, gun, fixed scanning laser). Why not build your own?! :)

Here's a good summary of products on the market: http://www.thebarcodewarehouse.co.uk/barcode-scanners-and-readers.aspx

Oh - I picked up a copy of Metro this morning: http://metro.co.uk/billybass

Look forward to meet you whenever it is... And will bring brownies!

I guess not... Maybe Simon needs to start a new poll for November?

Hi All,

Sorry for the delays. I've been travelling a lot this month, and
scheming with jonny about a proper venue too.

Will hopefully get venue availability soon, so will put up a date/vote
asap.

One thing we were thinking of trying was a weekday evening e.g. 6pm-
late. What do people think about that?

I might even be able to make a weekday!
What's the thinking with the venue?
