Does anyone know how best to dispose of hazardous wastes such as toilet
cleaner, silver polish, rust remover, and oil-based paints? In the
county, there is a hazardous waste disposal day once a year, but you
have to show proof of county residence. I don't know of anything similar
in the city. The ReStore doesn't usually take open cans or bottles.

Thank you very much.

You are supposed to be able to take it down to the drop-off site on
Gasconade, but last time I did that, they just told me to put the toxic
waste in the same dumpster with all the other trash. It was so stupid. I
complained to the Missouri Department of Health and Environmental Services.

Thank you very much.

Call Brightside. I believe they take hazardous materials as the last
pickup for the day.

The St. Louis metro region currently has no hazardous waste collection
sites that I know of, yet we have one of the biggest hazardous waste
processors in the country right over in Sauget. Chicago has 4
collection points and all their waste comes down here. We need to put
more pressure on our politicians for this!

try mixing liquids with cat litter - buy the cheapest brand and then it doesn't go into the sewers but unfortunately still into landfills - it's a messed up system -

I know about doing that, but many of the things I have are too thick to get out of the bottle or jar. I am going to put a list up on ReUseItStLouis, which I told the group about at the meeting. The goal of the group is actually to keep things out of the landfill, so maybe I will find some takers.

Thank you for writing back--Carol
