Hi teams,
I hope all teams are enjoying the NECA 2014 season games.
We are little past the half-way point of the season games and I though this would be a good time to inform everyone about the format of the playoffs and neutral umpire requirements. As we get closer to the end of the season games, Raghuvir will be updating and posting the schedule of games based upon seeding.
Providing neutral umpires for the playoff games is an important aspect of participating int he league. Captains and ECs of each team are responsible to assign a senior member of the team for neutral umpiring duties. ECs request your cooperation in providing neutral umpires. I'll send more information and requests on this as we get closer to the end of the season game round.
Now about the playoff format:
- Except the finals, all playoff games will be held within the groups.
- Top 6 teams from each group (out of the 9) will go to the playoffs.
- The top 2 teams will go directly to the quarter finals in each group.
- The Eliminator: The eliminator round will be played between the teams seeded 3 through 6 within each group. Teams 3 and 6 will play the eliminator 1, teams 4 and 5 will play eliminator 2.
- The Quarter Finals: In each group, the lowest seeded team of the eliminator will play the first seeded team and the 3rd seeded team will play the second seeded team for the other quarterfinals.
- The Semi-finals: In each group, the the lowest seeded winner of the quarterfinals will play the top seeded for semi-final 1 and the remaining 2 teams will play the second semi final game.
- The winners of the 2 semi final games from each group will then play the finals. This is the only time when the the teams will play across the groups in the playoff stage.
Neutral umpire assignments:
- Neutral umpires for eliminators through semi-final games will be assigned within the group.
- Teams seeded 1, 2, 7, and 8 will provide neutral umpires for the eliminator round.
- Team seeded 8, 9 and the losers of the eliminators will provide neutral umpires for quarter final round.
- The loser of quarter final round will provide neutral umpires for the semi final games.
- The losers of the semi-final games will provide neutral umpires for the finals. This will be the only game where neutral umpires are provided between the groups.
Hope this answers some of the questions you may be interested in knowing at this stage of the tournament. Keep up the good work the teams have been doing so far and help us complete another successful NECA tournament.
Good luck with the rest of the games.
Regards,
Ganesh Iyer (MCC 2)
