Hello!

I hope this email finds everyone doing well as we navigate all kinds of things like end of semesters for our residents, students, and even our own kids.

For those not there, I wanted you to know, we missed you!

One of the things that happened organically in our meeting was sharing the number of years of service to our current organizations (not even years of service in the field.) The group in the room had a combined 213 years of service to our current organizations! Let that sink in!!! Our group has at least DOUBLE the average length of employment of the national average. THANK you to those that came and shared.

This is a recap of a few things that happened at IECA in Connecticut, and also a few pics from the fun crew that made it all the way to the casino.

  • Will from Marbridge, Sunny from Chapel Haven, Andy from St Louis Life and myself presented on Aging in our populations that Tuesday at 4.
  • Nancy from Riverview shared in detail regarding the new development that will expand the Riverview community. Though many details will still be taking shape over the next several years, the new property gift to Riverview will not be expanded residential housing for students but to expand housing for staff, and to be a gathering place for the greater Riverview community to foster ongoing connection with those that stay or visit the Cape. Amazing!
  • ScenicView Academy in Utah shared many developments, among them expanded therapy services, recent founding sponsorship of the AMAZING Autism Symposium, 7th Annual Autcon, and 85 North, a building in Provo offering expanded housing for ScenicView's graduates and others.
  • Team ScenicView let me tag along with them on a road trip for this conference, and we toured CIP in Lee, Ma, as well as Vista and Chapel Haven in Connecticut-- thank you for the amazing hospitality! These are excellent programs and we were honored.
  • Riverview will also be seeking to gather our information to share with graduate families as opposed to past years of hosting Transition Fairs. Detail on that can go in a separate email.
  • Recommended to the group to participate in the future in the Autism Symposium, and consideration of Together for Choice as well.
Trends we are seeing that rose to the surface quickly
  • Students re-learning how to have unstructured time
  • Prompt dependence
  • Parents learning how to let go
  • Aging and passing away
  • Parents very protective
  • Panic Inquiries
  • Seeing a trend of inquiries around 30 after a few years at home after transition programs
  • Working to allow discomfort and how to be bored
Where are we finding HOPE?
  • Each other
  • Validation of our work
  • Renewed requests to present about people over 30
  • One proposal idea that surfaced was called "The lifelong client" that could help EC's know what it would be like to help a certain person throughout the lifespan versus just young adult.

I was so encouraged by all the people I got a chance to interact with in these past few weeks. This group is made of fun, dedicated, fierce advocates, passionate and creative leaders, curious thinkers and trailblazers. Thank you for allowing me to be in your orbit!

Happy... What day is it now??? Thursday!
