It is so awesome of you to reach out. 

I can definitely speak for the group that they would NOT want to meet instead of attending the therapeutic swap. Our programs collaborate with many therapeutic programs and almost exclusively with therapeutic minded consultants. In fact-- we have often wondered if we are in the right swap (as in wonder it every year). The trick is that most of us might have been traditionally non-therapeutic, but times are a-changing and our clients receive more and more therapeutic support. (this is a side topic for the future). 

Soooo, is there an hour on Tuesday before a reception that is EC focused time that program participants are not part of it? Perhaps same time as that? 

Or-- I could ask the group about meeting up during the college and university fair, which I think most people would not be worried about attending (the people we've normally been in the same room with). Is there space availability even though day time? 

I certainly appreciate your pre-thought of us-- what a gift. 

We have started taking part in LD focused School Connections groups that fine tune which consultants are working our types of needs. Things are continuing to get better for our network of programs and IECA is a good place to meet up with each other.

Hi Jen,

 

I’m working on the schedule of events and assigning meeting space for the IECA 2024 Annual Conference in Connecticut this May. We’ve made a change to the schedule so I wanted to make sure that your regular day/time of Monday at 5:30pm would still work. This conference, we will still host three exhibiting events but with the following changes:

1. The Therapeutic Information Swap will be on Monday from 5:00-6:30pm.
2. Tuesday morning’s event will be a College Fair only for 4-year colleges and universities.
3. The Exchange will now be for K-12 schools as well as gap/travel and LD Post-secondary programs. I believe this is where most (if not all) of your group will exhibit. This will be on Wednesday from 10:15-11:45 a.m.

 

If your group does not typically go to the Therapeutic Information Swap, then we should be fine to keep your gathering on Monday at 5:30pm. If they do, then we might need to pick a new time slot.

Hi Jen – am I reading this right that we would have a booth at two swaps:

 

1. The Therapeutic Information Swap will be on Monday from 5:00-6:30pm.

That would be different from what I’ve experienced but I admit it’s been awhile since I’ve been to IECA…

No, we will only have a booth at the Wednesday swap. She is asking if we want a room to meet together at our normal time, which would lead to missing walking through the therapeutic swap. Which I know people would rather walk through that swap than meet with me. 😉 

She is alerting me that the therapeutic swap experienced a change in time, corresponding to our "traditional;" meeting time.

I’m so happy I reached out! This is great information. I had a feeling the conflict with the Swap would be something we’d want to address so I’m glad we’re doing that now!

 

I also appreciate you providing thoughts on possible solutions. If you can make it work and the group agrees, meeting during the College Fair on Tuesday morning would work well from a meeting space standpoint. There will be a joint K-12 School Community and Therapeutic Community event from 10:15-11:15am. It will be on mental health…I’m thinking that’s something your group might want to attend. If so, we could set your meeting for right after that from 11:30am-12:30pm which would lead right into lunch at 12:30pm. Is an hour long enough for your group to connect?

 

And to briefly address your other topic, we at IECA have also had conversations about the appropriate event in which you should exhibit. It’s part of the reason for making the change in Tuesday’s event. IECs have struggled to make it around the Fair to visit everyone in the allotted time. Our hope is that those IECs who do postsecondary will use the Fair to visit the traditional 4-year institutions then come to the Exchange on Wednesday morning to see the more specialized LD postsecondary programs. We will try it in Connecticut, get feedback after the conference, and go from there!

Hi Jen,

 

Since you and I initially connected, IECA ended up having to make another change to the conference schedule (as you may have seen). Our plan was to have the Swap on Monday, Fair on Tuesday, and Exchange on Wednesday but when we approached the hotel about this, we learned that due to another group using the space during the day, that a Monday afternoon event would not be an option for us. So we had to pivot and we will now have a College & Gap Year Fair on Tuesday and a K-12 Exchange & Therapeutic Information Swap as one event together on Wednesday. I actually think this adjustment could be a good one for your post-secondary group as there’s no question as to which exhibiting event you belong in and I know that’s something you all have been discussing.

 

I wanted to also note that I still think having your group meet on Tuesday from 11:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. is the best way to go. We wanted to keep our promise to the therapeutic schools & programs about them having an event on Monday and since it can’t be the Swap, we’ve added a new event called Connect and Collaborate. It will take place from 5:00-6:30 p.m. (when your group used to meet) and will basically be an informal networking reception for therapeutic reps and IECs but your group would be welcome to attend as I know some of you straddle that line.

 

Just wanted to fill you in on the updates and changes. Let me know if you have any questions,

I wanted to let you know that your group has been assigned to one of our breakout rooms called Brothertown. This is in the Sky Convention Center of the Mohegan Sun on the Lobby Level. To confirm, you will meet on Tuesday, May 7 from 11:30am-12:30pm.

 

I’ve included a map for reference. You enter the space where it says Upper Level Priority Access so you’ll see that Brothertown is the first room you come to.

No we DO have a meeting, it's just at an unusual time. It is 1130-1230 right before the IECA lunch on Tuesday. Below is the email that Andy Conover forwarded to the post-secondary group. My email is having some trouble going through since we switched from .com to .org.....

I wanted to let you know that your group has been assigned to one of our breakout rooms called Brothertown. This is in the Sky Convention Center of the Mohegan Sun on the Lobby Level. To confirm, you will meet on Tuesday, May 7 from 11:30am-12:30pm.

 

I’ve included a map for reference. You enter the space where it says Upper Level Priority Access so you’ll see that Brothertown is the first room you come to.
