Hi everyone,
Thanks for all of the bug reports in recent weeks and months! We're aware of the webpage layout problems that the latest version of ShareMeNot can cause.
The original version of ShareMeNot removed cookies from requests to trackers, but did not fully block those requests (i.e., still loaded the real buttons). This approach was not as privacy-preserving, since it still let your browser make requests to trackers when it loads the buttons from them. Those request don't include cookies, but can reveal information like your IP address. The Chrome version and the newer versions for Firefox use the stand-in buttons to avoid making any requests at all to the trackers until you click on one of the buttons.
We're working on updates to both the Chrome and Firefox versions to make the replacement buttons an option, and bringing back the functionality to just block cookies (and still load the real buttons). This may take a bit of time -- stay tuned! In the meantime, if you're using Firefox, you can manually revert to an old version:
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/sharemenot/versions/. You may need to set your Firefox add-on preferences to not automatically update ShareMeNot.
Thanks!
