(I haven't tried this myself) I just wonder if when adding photos,
would it be possible to use those available on internet by giving url
address like http://some.domain.com/some/photo.jpg instead of local
file path. The problem I experience when building an app using
sharedbook apis is that it seems to force the use of local photos when
it comes to adding them to a book, whereas most of time photos are
actually available on internet like flickr, facebook etc. etc. If only
local photos is supported, it may take quite long time to upload
everyone of them; plus they may have to be downloaded before being
uploaded which takes more time and in my opinion not necessary if
providing url addresses is also supported. The only solution I can
think of right now is to have threads doing the heavy lifting and ask
users to check back, or give them seemingly unstopping loading
indicator which isn't great.

Thanks,

Chen

Hello Chen,

There are actually 2 types of photos, that you can add to the book.

1. Embedded photo - it's a photo that appears inside an article. You
can use a regular IMG tag, for example:
<img src='http://alex.com/a.jpg' owner='alex' floatStyle='right'>. It
will be downloaded by Sharedbook application while building the book.
This feature is already available.

2. "Gallery photo" - photos that appears on the front and back covers
and in the 'My Pages' section of the book.
Giving an URL to the wrapper, will be available very soon - couple of
weeks.

I'll make sure to post here a message once it's out.

Regards,
Alex.

Thanks Alex. I didn't know there was embedded photo :) and it sounds
like a good solution to me. But I guess gallery photo has greater
flexibility over embedded as they should also be available in photo
library when personalizing a book.

Many Thanks,

Chen

When you personolize the book, both photos are available in the photo library.
The only difference between them is the way you add them to the book.
