Goods news! You may recall that during the middle of December SHARE's
vehicle fleet suffered several cataclysmic breakdowns. Here's an
update two weeks in;
- In response to the 12/14/11 E Mail Alert Peggy H and Nancy
P loaned us their 97 GM Cargo Van and 99 Honda Odyssey.
- Barbara R donated a 2002 Honda Accord and Dave D donated
his 85 Chevy Blazer Truck.
- Several other folks called in offering loaners too, but
the GM Cargo Van and Odyssey Van were excellent interim solutions that
gave us the time to acquire or repair several vehicles.
- We also wish to thank the mechanic who called in to see
if he could help, the several excellent suggestions received of where
to check for quality used vehicles and repairs, and the churches who
put our plea into their weekly bulletins.
Meanwhile, SHARE Vehicle Maintenance (VM) Committee Mechanics got the
broken-down-and-halfway-to-the- junkyard Toyota Corolla (aka Apple)
running again. The Hattie Mae Passenger Van had it's electrical kinks
taken out and has stabilized. We've changed the oil and other fluids
in all the vehicles.
Now the focus is on the main missing component of our fleet - a Large
Cargo Van. It must haul blankets and supplies to the far flung
shelters and tent-cities, even traversing from Issaquah to Everett
twice a week with over 500 blankets a trip. VM Members have
investigated tips of used Cargo Vans from friends in far flung
locales, and on Saturday will begin attending Vehicle Auctions in
search of Cargo Vans.
If you know of a large, rugged and inexpensive cargo van, please
contact our Vehicle Maintenance Staff Liaison at
(206) 448-7889.
It takes a village to keep the SHARE Vehicular Fleet going - thank you
for doing your part. If you know others who want to help, send them
to our website -
sharewheel.org.
Happy New Year!
