query about shp files

I am trying to convert a shp file to a kml or kmz file format. The problem is these files are huge and MapWindow GIS is crashing. I cant reduce the file size as that is my minimum resolution I need. Is there a way around. Also google earth is unable to open a shp file unless its very very small. What other tools do you recommend changing a shp file to kml/kmz

For really big vector datasets, it is probably best to use something like GeoServer to provide tiled images of the data to Google Earth.

Santipan, how big are the files?  Could you break up the files into sections or portions and then combine them later when processing is complete?  For example, a county-wide LIDAR based topo map is huge for me, but I can sometimes break it up into the NE, SE, SW, and NW sections, convert them to KML and then combine the KML files within Google Earth.
