I noticed that you have PSN plus Alatar. Is it worth the money? I see they have dropped the price to £31 for the year ... so seems a good time to maybe jump on it if there is any value. I'm guessing if I get a Vita I'll have more use for it.

Yeah I signed up for 3 months to grab the Christmas freebies! It's good value if you like buying digital releases as you get good discounts. Example, right now I have picked up tomb Raider Underworld and the 5 Eps of Back to the Future for free.

Dont the freebies stop working once you subscription run out? Or are you managing to get through them all?

I am tempted to sign up for the year and see how I get on with it but it would be nice to know what the game plans were...through if ICO Collection ever went on the freebie list it would be well worth teh price...

They do run out yeah, but I think I'll just keep it going.  For €50 a year, if I get two games out of it, its worthwhile!

Decided to upgrade my HDD on my PS3. I only had a 60gig drive and with the amount of stuff off PSN I now have or get I either need to delete to make space or upgrade. So bought a 250gig drive for £40...pretty cheap upgrade for the convenience...
Now to see how easy it is to transfer from one drive to the other.

Sony survey hints at future PS Plus features

from VG247 by Stephany Nunneley

An online survey released by Sony has the firm asking participants whether they would enjoy certain additions to PS Plus. One of the survey questions was regarding whether customers who bought a game on either PS3 or PS Vita, would enjoy getting the game free for the other console. Well, yeah, who wouldn’t? What that means is if you bought “Resistance on PS Vita, you could download Resistance on PS3 for free,” the survey used as an example. Sounds like a good deal, but note this is just a survey at this point, and no means an indication Sony is planning to implement the feature just yet. The survey also mentions the possibility of a Vita version of Gran Turismo, which if the history of the series is any indication, isn’t far-fetched in the slighted. Thanks, IGN.

Well if you ever need to upgrade you PS3 HDD it's a pretty painless exercise. Only 2 things you need to be sure to do is format the drive you are backing up to is FAT32 & that you copy the latest firmware to a PS3-->UPDATE dir.
It aint a fast process but it copied every setting, game & I did not even need to re-enter my password.
Well done Sony...

Well, if you're talking from a technical point of view the GTA V hype machine is already underway, and it returns to California so can't wait to see that.

But graphics aside, I think RDR is a much more enjoyable game and more interesting than GTA IV anyhow.

Honestly for £12, even if you only use it now and again over the year it's worth  giving it a go.
It's not the best ui but the selection is pretty good, only a few albums here are there missing.

I know...Batman: Arkham City & Vanquish are great games.
I've ordered a Vita for Xmas on the strength of the games they have been putting on PSN+ so far....It's basically I one off investment I'll just play whatever arrives via PSN+... Uncharted alone is porbably worth it.

In terms of value for money, PSN+ certainly seems to put Live Gold to shame, especially if you have no previous investment in Live.

I can only guess though with regards to Live, that the situation won't change unless MS start losing gold subscriptions.

Regular social gamers who have friends on Live probably don't mind having to pay the £30-£40 a year if it's something they have always done.

I must admit, I recently tried to use the new Internet Explorer on our new xbox (just bought a kinect and xbox mini for £150 at cash convertors) and was disgusted that this is exclusive to gold users. Sheesh...

PS Plus EU February content: free Sleeping Dogs, WipEout 2048

by Dave Cook

PlayStation Plus European members have a hefty stack of games coming their way for free, as part of Sony’s Instant Game Collection. Sleeping Dogs and WipEout 2048 lead this month’s offering.

Subscribers will bag a free PS3 download of Square-Enix and United Front Game’s crime hit Sleeping Dogs (from February 6th), as well as Codemaster’s twee karting title F1 Race Stars.

PSN fans will also get Kim Swift’s Quantum Conundrum on the house, while PS Vita owners can download WipEout 2048 (from February 13th) and my own personal favourite Vita title Lumines: Electric Symphony, absolutely free for a month (from February 20th). Those blocks are just too damned addictive!

90 day PS Plus memberships prices will also be slashed by 30% in February. If you sign up between February 6th-20th, you will only pay £7.99. None too shabby.

What do you make of this month’s PS Plus offering? Let us know below.

Thats pretty tasty. I've heard Sleepin dogs is not half bad.  I'm sure to get more then a few hours out of WipEout, especially when I got WipEout  on PS3 for free a while back and i really enjoyed it even if  I'm not a racing game fan.

Jaysus!  Mass Effect 3 for free?

EU PS Plus update: Mass Effect 3, Dead or Alive 5 and Joe Danger 2 deals ready for March

by Nick Akerman

Sony has revealed its PlayStation Plus updates for March. The line-up includes three PS3 games and two PS Vita titles, and may signal the best batch of free content subscribers have received so far.

PS Plus users can download Mass Effect 3, Dead or Alive 5 and Joe Danger 2 from March 6. A week later, Metal Gear Solid HD will be available for PS Vita. The free games are rounded off with another Vita effort, as platform puzzler Puddle joins the service on March 20.

Exclusive discounts have already been confirmed for Dead or Alive 5′s DLC. From February 27, Far Cry 3 will be 40% off for a limited time. Dust 514 enthusiasts can also get the Starter Pack DLC free for two weeks.

Last month’s games will slowly leave the promotion. Sleeping Dogs, Vanquish and Limbo deals disappear from March 6, Wipeout 2048 from March 13, and Lumines from March 20. Still plenty of time to pick all of these up.

I'm finished ME3 and i had started it on PC anyway but Joe Danger 2 and then Metal Gear Solid HD for Vita (which i was actually going to buy anway at some stage) is fecking great news! Dead or Alive 5 might make we relive my old Xbox days but I've found that fighting games really dont float my boat anymore....I just like the idea of them.

Nice (feel like I'm repearitn myself!). Interested in Zero Escape: Virtue’s Last Reward. Having played alot of Persona 4, I'm finding the Vita might suit me playing these type of Japanese games, something about the structure and pacing really suits the platform. I'd never normally bother on the PS3.

Not sure how that will work but one free movie per week for PSN_ subscribers...ok then.

Sony announced plans to add Epix to its growing list of PS3 video-on-demand services earlier this year, and today gamers will be able to download the app. Epix's content catalog includes over 3,000 movies in high definition, according to Sony, along with comedy specials, boxing matches, and concerts. Sony says its users can expect "great deals" to help introduce them to the studio-backed service. First and foremost, PSN members will have access to a free 14-day trial of the app. Better still, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be able to watch one movie for free each and every week — even if they haven't signed up for Epix. In its blog post announcing Epix's release (due alongside the PlayStation Store update later today), Sony didn't disclose which movies those will be. We've asked the company for more details. Epix will be available in the TV / Video Services section of the PS3 system menu later today, and Sony says PS Vita users can expect to see a portable version of the app "soon."

Can't see me ever having to buy a Vita game at this rate!  Not sure that's a sustainable model, but hey!

Sony has announced its European PS Plus content for May. Subscribers can look forward to free downloads of Hitman: Absolution, Catherine and more.

We received a run-down of the content this afternoon, confirming that from May 1 you will be able to download Hitman: Absolution, Catherine and Malicious on PS3 for free.

PS Vita owners can also grab free downloads of Sine Mora from May 8, and Velocity Ultra HD from May 15.

There you have it folks, short and hopefully sweet. Does any of the above take your fancy? Let us know below.

I've had my eye on Sine Mora and was hoping it would go on PSN+...have a soft spot for Shmups.

It is a case of if your patient in all likelyhood a game you want to play will show up. I've bought 2 games, Persona 4 and Virtua Tennis 4...Persona simply because it was rated so highly and Tennis because it was a fiver. I really want to play Guacamelee but in all likelyhood it will end up being free so I'm holding out...not brilliant for the developer since its not like its expensive at £7.99.

ICO, Shadow of the Colossus HD and Demon’s Souls to be free on EU PS Plus in June

by Alex Donaldson

European PlayStation Plus members are in for a hell of a treat next month – when the service offers Demon’s Souls and the HD versions of ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD as free titles.

The three make up some of the best Japanese-made games on the PS3, and their being added to PS Plus offers fans who haven’t experienced any of these three cult hits an opportunity to give them a go at no extra cost.

ICO and Shadow of the Colossus HD Collection launched in September 2011, while Demon’s Souls is a little older having launched in Europe in June 2010.

The games’ll be available from the first week of June on. If you’re not a PlayStation Plus member, all three titles are currently on sale for a reduced price on the European PSN. North America tends to get different PS Plus offerings – but we’ll update on those as they’re announced.

I played about 3 Bosses into SotC. In its day I can see why it impressed but i struggled with the controls. I feel like I am fighting them all the time. It never seems to react the way I want it to which is extremely frustrating. Not sure if it's meant to feel that way by design or just a product of when the original was released.

Even by today’s standards the idea of fighting 20+ bosses is impressive and they do an amazing job of giving you that sense of scale. God of War 3 definitely took some cues from here. I can see the charm of the game as well. It tells its story really well with almost no dialogue and the sense of loneliness suits it.

But with the controls the way they are it’s a struggle to continue playing it.

You should try GTA multiplayer for fun / ridiculous, it's more casual and drop-in for 10 minutes kind of thing than the SP.
