Hi Linux-users

Sorry to write in English. (An ugly translation to Chinese is in top
and English below).

Debian/Ubuntu
等值为我们.

First, thanks to the ShanghaiLUG for your great hospitality. To help
teachers and primary school pupils all has to be in Chinese and the
Linux we need has to be simple with Gnumeric as spreadsheet, Thuna as
fileeditor and Mousepad as editor. That is new lightweight programs
that is not in Chinese, yet. Also the "edutainment" software like
Childsplay, Gcompris is not all in Chinese.
Only partly, the Tuxpaint, Gtans, hanzim, hrd, Gnugo Chinese games
plus Inkscape are in Chinese. Abiword needs more Chinese fonts.
The present distribution is Xubuntu, but the translation problems are
Linux-universal, I think.
If you have time please pick out some programs to translate or find
some lightweight Debian / Ubuntu equivalents for us.

Best regards

Phillip Bøgh

Haha, This is quite interesting. I always think that the linux shall be promoted among people who have not been dominated by windows.Ubuntu is easy to learn and user-frinedly.Only problem is just like phillip has mentioned that the chinese version is not translated in a natural way.For example, the English version of OpenOffice suite is much better,in terms of fonts and layout. I used to work for a company who localizing the OpenOffice into chinese version. The problem for such company is their market is limited.Perhaps the education sector will be potential in future.

By the way, do you guys from shlug often meet each other, like a regular seminar or a meeting? If, i will be happy to attend.
