It is a non profit org. where they train volunteers to teach English to people who do not speak English, or speak very little English. Thy serve several towns in the Boston suburbs. Volunteers are paired with a learner, meeting once a week in a public place such as the library, Panera, etc. It is free to the learners.
There's always a long waiting list of learners. A high percentage of people on the waiting list are Asians. They really need volunteers so they can better serve the communities. If you are interested, please contact Ludy Liu (see email address above). The teacher and learner can agree on a time and place to meet, it does not have to be a weekday. Ludy tutors on Sundays at Panera in Lex. Center.
English At Large, like many other organizations , have an annual auction to raise money. If you have some knickknacks (new) sitting in your closets or drawers, please contact Gary F. (address above) he will be glad to come to your house to pick them up. Of course, your donations are tax deductible, EAL is very generous with their estimates on the donated items. I remember the first time i donated some clothing, vases, etc. I told Gary to come to our house to pick whatever he wanted, leave the things he did not want. Well, he came and took everything!!
If you have questions about EAL, feel free to ask Ludy or Gary.
Thanks for your attention.
