HEBREW COLLEGE OFFERS TWO NEW ON-LINE COURSES
---------------------------------------------

Hebrew College's Campus in Cyberspace is pleased to offer two new
on-line courses. These courses afford an opportunity to interact
with "virtual classmates" all over the world. Each course will be
conducted over a period of eight weeks, beginning the week of
October 7. An on-line technical assistant will be available.

Tuition is $45 per course. Each course generates 2 CEUs
(Continuing Education Units) towards a Certificate of Jewish
Studies which requires 36 CEUs.)

Finding Your Jewish Voice: A Creative Writing Workshop

Dr. Seymour Simckes

This on-line creative writing course is designed to accommodate
all levels of learners interested in finding their voices as
storytellers. The instructor will guide students through a
sequence of brief writing exercises that juggle back and forth
from inner to outer experience, shifting focus from document to
fantasy, from remembered to invented events. The workshop will
concentrate on student work, with readings assigned in response to
the themes that come up. The goal is to invite as much cross
cultural participation as possible with an emphasis on material
that confronts the conflicts inherent in the concentric circles of
past and present Jewish identity.

Coping with Anti-Semitism

Ronnie Friedland and Suzanne Greenberg

How do individuals and communities respond and heal in the
aftermath of anti-Semitic incidents? In this course Ronnie
Friedland and Suzanne Greenberg draw on interviews and photographs
from their publication "Anti-Semitism in Massachusetts: A Look at
Seven Case Studies," as well as on students' own experiences. The
course deals with overt anti-Semitism, such as swastikas spray-
painted on buildings, and the more subtle forms of anti-Semitism
exhibited by negative and inaccurate depictions of Israel and/or
the Jewish people in various publications. A theme running
throughout the course will also focus on the conflicts that can
arise between people combating prejudice and those safeguarding
freedom of speech.
