Does anyone know how Jews (esp. Jewish women) began to play mah jongg?? Is it an
Ashkenazi phenomenon specifically? I'm opening a (progressive and feminist!) Judaica store
in Seattle and decided to sell mah jongg sets since they're so Jewish and there seems to be a
revival of younger women playing but I haven't been able to find out the history of how the
association came about.
