Dear All:
I had hoped to join the call last night but was unable to.
No Frack NY Coalition is a relatively new group that has formed to
organize a mass rally in NYC against fracking. We have set the date
for June 25 (permit applied for, but not yet confirmed, for Foley
Square). We are working madly to generate interest and turnout.
Besides a statewide permanent ban on fracking and fracking byproducts,
our demands are for development and implementation of renewable, green
energy sources, and the support of local agriculture - this is not
only good idea, but to show our support for upstate economies that
are impacted.
6/25 is also the date of the Statewide Day of Action that Food and
Water Watch is promoting.
Foley Square is the site of one of NYC's first public fresh water
supply reservoirs, the "Collect Pond," which eventually had to be
closed and filled in due to pollution and disease. Let us humans learn
from our past mistakes!
We've had 3 planning meetings so far, and have representatives of 6 or
7 groups working together towards this rally. There's a lot to do to
get this together. We need groups to endorse or co-sponsor us, to help
with outreach, and especially we need people to come. For more
information and to contact us:
