A great local organizing tool that Murrysville used well is scaring the crap out of people with possible scenarios. I got this from NY state, a worksheet for figuring out how much cumulative impact per county. It doesn't take into account the processing and pipelines that go with that volume of wells, but it can show at a low estimate of one pad per square mile, what we're facing. It's a one sheet document that you can pass out at local meetings and hearings. If you talk about the local government expense of the drilling and the decrease in property values that will inevitably come with heavy industrial operations surrounding your community, you're bound to convince anyone that this is a bad idea, even if they don't believe that drilling contaminates water.

Subject: cumulative impacts

"Cumulative impacts" has been our mantra, but I haven't seen anything that employed formulas to approximate the impacts by town, and towns are the arena of much outreach and mobilizing today.

I included a page (one side) in the N2N mailing done in the Town of Sanford, where the water withdrawal DRBC application was an issue. There was also a leasing map on the 9X12 envelope.

Attached is the data that was used in that mailing, as well as a worksheet for your use.  It uses only average SGEIS estimates for the calculations, and is so footnoted.
