Oil and gas companies want to frack New York, threatening to poison our water and pollute our air. Earlier this year, state regulators proposed banning fracking in New York City and Syracuse’s watersheds, but no Western New York watersheds have been protected. Also, toxic wastewater from fracking could be accepted in Niagara Falls if fracking moves forward. Though the area faces drilling and wastewater disposal, no Western New York senators have stepped up to protect their constituents. They are also not protecting any New Yorkers from fracking, as they don't support Senate Bill 4220, a ban on fracking.

Not only that, but Senator Mark Grisanti, who represents Western New York, is the chair of the Environmental Conservation Committee in the State Senate and sided with influential oil and gas companies in refusing to hold a hearing or bring bill 4220 to vote. WNY's Senator Timothy Kennedy has not co-sponsored this bill either. All of our state's senators need to be on the same page if we're going to get a ban for New York!

With the DEC poised to allow fracking in the new year, these senators need to hear from YOU! We demand clean water and healthy communities, not dirty drilling. Can you take a moment to call? The calls are easy to make and will help build momentum for a ban on fracking across the state. It only takes a few minutes and makes a big difference.

Here’s how:

On Thursday, November 10th, between 9am and 5pm, call the senators and tell them to BAN fracking now!
Senator Grisanti (head of the Senate Environmental Conservation Committee) at 877-796-1949
Senator Kennedy at 877-796-1948

Tell them your name and where you’re from, and then simply tell them that they must protect New Yorkers by co-sponsoring bill 4220, a ban on fracking.

Sample script for Grisanti:
“Hi, My name is ______ and I live in (city, state). I believe it’s Senator Grisanti’s duty, as head of the Environmental Conservation Committee, to protect New York’s land and people by banning fracking through cosponsorship of bill 4220. Thank you for your time today.”

Sample script for Kennedy:
“Hi. My name is ______ and I live in (city, state). As a constituent, I urge Senator Kennedy to protect all New Yorkers by banning fracking through cosponsorship of bill 4220. Thank you for your time today.”
