The Shaker Youth Hockey Association (SYHA) Board of Directors would like to thank Caleb Wyse for his years of service to the Shaker Youth Hockey Program. During Caleb’s tenure the program has seen tremendous growth in the number of children playing hockey in Shaker. The growth has come from not only the hard work of Caleb, but the great parents and coaches that we have.
The SYHA is on very solid ground both in terms of members and financially. We have over 150 families and over 200 children playing hockey in Shaker.
Going into the 2013-14 season nothing will change with Caleb leaving. The City of Shaker Heights will replace the position with another Hockey Director. The Board will be involved in the process, just like we were eight years ago when Caleb was hired.
The Raider Hockey Camp and Conditioning skates will go on as planned. These are City of Shaker Heights run programs and the City is actively looking for coaches to run these programs.
The tryout process for Mites and Squirts will be the same as it has been under Caleb. Mites and Squirts will tryout at the end of August. We will have the coaches and independent evaluators watching the kids for placement on Mite and Squirt teams. The selection process will continue the process of coaches and evaluators discussing each individual player for placement on a team. We plan on having four Squirt teams and three Mite teams.
During this transition period a Hockey Committee will be created consisting of Rich Mears, Brandt Butze and a few to be determined coaches. This Committee will be responsible for all hockey decisions until a new director is hired.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding the upcoming season please contact SYHA President Rich Mears at

Thanks,
Shaker Youth Hockey Association Board of Directors
