My nephew was hospitalized with chicken pox for three weeks. The initial infection was mild but led to a secondary viral infection which saw him develop septicemia. He was very ill. He's now three and fine (this was in October).
His brother also had it as did two cousins, all were fine and had minor symptoms - it really is unpredictable. My son was vaccinated and didn't catch it. They had all been together at a family funeral and obviously passed it around.
