Announcing Shaka Player v3.1.0

Hi everyone,

We are pleased to announce the long-awaited release of Shaka Player v3.1.0.  We took our time to fix as many bugs as possible in v3.0.x before releasing v3.1, and we hope it was worth the wait.

Thanks to some very productive contributors, the list of individual features that landed in this release is too long to include here, so here is an overview:

  - Ads APIs are now STABLE (no longer BETA)
  - MediaCapabilities support (BETA, opt-in via the useMediaCapabilities config)

  - Low-latency HLS (LL-HLS) and DASH (LL-DASH) support

  - Built-in CEA-708 decoder (mux.js no longer needed for CEA)
  - Support for thumbnail tracks

  - IE11 is no longer supported

  - UI overflow menu items now available as control panel buttons

  - Network stall detection

  - Extract HDR & spatial audio metadata

  - Support for PlayReady in HLS

  - Improved WebVTT styling and embedded tag support

  - Support for SubViewer (SBV), SubStation Alpha (SSA), LyRiCs (LRC), and SubRip (SRT) subtitles

  - Support for forced subtitles

  - Support for side-loaded subtitles in src= playback mode

  - Various new configuration options and callbacks

  - New plugin interface for custom UI seek bar implementations

  - AirPlay support in the UI
