Hi.

Is there already made any comparison between VIDEOJS player and Shaka player?
Since there is no support for HLS (.m3u8 stream) play-out in Shaka Player - is it possible to add somehow hls.js to Shaka Player library?

I am completely aware that this group is more or less about Shaka Player issues but I didn't find any other more proper place to ask this. Thank you for your help.

Regards,
Miha

Hi Miha,

We have not done any comparison with videojs, but I am aware of a Shaka plugin for videojs.  We don't own or maintain it, but someone in the community created this: https://github.com/MetaCDN/videojs-shaka-player

There is no support for HLS in Shaka yet, but it is on our roadmap: https://github.com/google/shaka-player/issues/279

My team does not have any experience with hls.js, but from a strategy perspective, we do not plan to transmux at all.  For us, HLS will be another manifest format only.  If the browser supports MPEG2-TS, then MPEG2-TS HLS content should be playable.  If the browser supports ISO-BMFF (MP4), then ISO-BMFF HLS content should be playable.

All major browsers today support ISO-BMFF, but only a few are reported to support MPEG2-TS: Safari, Edge, Chromecast.

Thanks,
Joey
