Two weeks ago, we finally reached a point in this series of events
that has provided a partial closure. On March 7th, 2007 Jermaine
Barrett who murdered Shabazz on August 1, 2005 was sentenced to "From
15 Years To Life" for the Felony of 2nd Degree Murder.
This will never be a complete closure because Shabazz can never come
back to us. Furthermore, it is important that we do not forget that
seeking Justice for Shabazz will continue in the many years to come.
In less than 15 years if "time served" is considered, Jermaine Barrett
could possibly be paroled and allowed to walk the streets and to have
freedom as soon as July in the year 2020. The time Jermaine spent and
will spend in jail for killing Shabazz is not his first. During the
1990's, Jermaine Barrett had a gun toting incident on a college campus
for which he also spent time in jail and on parole. He was so proud of
himself that he saved and showed off the newspaper clippings about the
prior incident. If allowed to be paroled, Jermaine will have yet
another opportunity to pull out a gun and shoot someone again.
All of Shabazz family and friends and actually anyone has the right to
be kept informed about any possibility of parole for Jermaine Barrett.

Updates both have the Victim Notification documents needed to be
filled out and sent in so you can be kept informed.
A file full of letters from the Family and Friends of Shabazz as well
as a video from his daughter, Shimei were made a part of the Court
File to voice our opinions about the possibility of parole. These
documents will be read in the future by any parole board who may
consider releasing Jermaine Barrett in the future. You may submit
additional letters as well at any time. Read the Victim Notification

Jermaine Barrett apologized in court and did his best to hide his
usual Thug appearance to impress the Judge looking well dressed, in a
new suit, new glasses and a sorrowful looking head ducking mood . He
did not tell the Judge however how he had thinking that testimony
would not be heard, lied to his friends and family claiming that he
had acted in self defense.
Shabazz had no weapons and Barett emptied a gun into Shabazz from
Shabazz back as he walked away. Then Jermaine Barrett got a second
loaded gun went over to and turned Shabazz over to shoot Shabazz in
the eye. Yet Jermaine had the audacity to lie and to tell his folks
that Shabazz had bad aim and that he had shot Shabazz in self defense
having had better aim. Jermaine Barrett was the only one between them
who had not one but two loaded guns. Shabazz did not have any weapons
and his back was turned as he walked away from Barrertt after they
spoke. Jermaine had chased Shabazz and Timecca down with two loaded
guns in his motorcycle seat and arranged by phone with Timecca to meet
them in a gas station in the middle of the night where he killed
Shabazz at 2:00 AM in the morning.
Jermaine Barett is a liar and a murderer and should not be allowed to
ever be free. again. Life in jail is more than he gave to Shabazz who
will be dead forever, never to return. Turning the other cheek is
baloney, Shabazz turned his back and Jermaine shot him when Shabazz
back was turned. An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth was not an
option in this court. The Death Penalty is what should have been

Over time please help to see that this goal is achieved for Shabazz.
That Jermaine Barrett pays as much as the law allows for the crimes he
committed. It is only fair. Shabazz was a good man, a loving son a
good brother to his 8 siblings, a good father to his daughter, loved
by his family and friends survived by both of his parents, his aunts,
his uncles, his fiance, his daughter, his grandparents, siblings,
cousins, neices, nephews, great-neices and great-nephews and more who
all loved and now miss Shabazz. He was not a gang member or a thug. He
was a working man and a good father, a family man who did not deserve
to die shot in the back and in the face in the middle of the night,
left in the street to die.
Shabazz 92 year old Grandmother who we tried to shield from the
tragedy should not have had to read in the newspaper on her own that
her grandson was dead. Shimei who had such a loving father from birth
should not have had to now have no father. He was not a neglectful
parent. There is a saying that your children should not die before
you. Thanks to Jermaine, Shabazz has died before everyone, his entire
family including his parents, grandparents, siblings and so many of us
who are here to feel the pain.
Please in the many years to come stay vigilant that the least amount
of Justice that has been achieved to this point be maintained.
