Hello everyone,

I will be assisting Mark on Thursday to remove the partition walls in our new space, and lay down some carpet (my qualifications for this are that I own a big hammer and am on leave from work). We might also be attempting to assemble a bit of furniture.

We're anticipating that this won't take very long, and that we can all begin the actual space move on Friday - hopefully tying in with the regular evening session.

As I see it, we have quite a few tasks to do to officially 'move in' - a non-exhaustive list (please feel free to add) as follows:

- Build/acquire furniture - Robin has said we will have some chairs from GG, but it might be good to try and find more. We have had a few comments on Makerspace layout, benches and furniture so far - see this forum post - but this is likely to figure out when we're all in.
- Move space equipment over from GG. Might require a car or two and some heavy lifting (have you SEEN all the books we have?!)
- Acquire pledged equipment
- Inventory equipment - not an exciting task by any means, but might be easier to get going with at the start as we move. This can then be proudly displayed on our website or forum, so people can find what we have.
- Obtain billions of Really Useful Boxes
- Set up IT operations, including membership access - I've been working on RFID entry for the space, and it should be finished within a few weeks. We'll also need to set up any networking we might need, I believe makoto has some ideas on this.
- Work out a list of things we desperately/will need
- Figure out the best place to park in Guildford

So if anyone would like to volunteer for anything or pledge any equipment/furniture, please reply below, or if you're free on Friday in the daytime or evening do come along if you want to lend a hand.

As for the evening session, let's tentatively say that's it's on and it's likely it will be filled with discussing ideas for the space. If you want to work on a project, by all means do, but sadly we can't guarantee you a convenient workbench or access to the equipment yet :)

Also, Friday evening - there is a lovely shared kitchen area that we'll have access to. If you want to bring along any drinks or nibbles to celebrate please do! I'm sure there'll be a point where we're forced to sample the local takeaways too.

Hopefully see you all there for this exciting time!

Chris

What will we have for internet connectivity at the new Makerspace?

I’m willing to volunteer to help makoto with the networking (as that is my background), so I’ll contact him direct about this via the SHM Forum.

Hi again everyone,

Sadly due to unforeseen circumstances we won't be getting into the Boileroom this week. We'll keep you posted on progress that we make.

The good news is that there will be a Games Galaxy session on Friday evening at the usual times :) Thanks goes to gingebot for hosting this.

Anyone who's interested in helping to prepare for our move will most likely find plenty to do on Friday at GG! Otherwise, we can discuss other things pertinent to the move and answer any questions you might have.

Apologies again, but it will surely be worth the wait.

Kind Regards

Chris

Great to hear you have a space, sorry to hear you can't move in yet.
I didn't spot any traffic on this group recently on the space hunt. Where is it ? What opening times are you aiming for, what membership fees / sub's ?
I am changing job so probably have less time than previously, but will get to work from home so might get to play once I've settled.

Thanks to gingebot for catching us again as we go into temporary free fall, though now macaba has moved I'm not sure what we do about a parachute before we hit the ground :)

Hi Piers,

we are moving to a space at the Boileroom Guildford here. Our goal will be 24/7 opening once we get settled in and have the facility properly organised.

Membership is £25 a month.

It's not an ideal situation, but discussions often get split between here and our forum.

Hope to  see you at an open evening at the space later in the month if you want to come along and find out what we are up to.
