Dear Community Members,

 

This week I met with the mother of a 21 year old young man, Rishi Chandiramani and she had an urgent plea for a stem cell donor for her son who has leukemia and desperately needs a stem cell transplant. Rishi is no longer in remission and every day is vital in the search for a donor.

 

Encourage your children and friends ages 18-44 to "BE THE MATCH".

 

It takes just a cheek swab to determine if your unique gift could save a life.

 

NOTE: the steps in donating this gift of life are: (1) Cheek swab (2) Only should you be a suitable donor, just some blood donation, NO BONE MARROW ASPIRATE REQUIRED, YOUR STEM CELLS ARE AVAILABLE IN YOUR BLOOD ITSELF!! IT IS AS SIMPLE AS DONATING BLOOD, AND YOUR BLOOD IS ACTUALLY RETURNED TO YOU AFTER SOME STEM CELLS ARE REMOVED.

 

Because Rishi is an Indian, the most likely donor will come from another South Asian person. It is important that we act together as a community to help save one of our own.

 

Please note that friends of the family, Dr. Rahul and Usha Nath have organized a drive at their residence to help with the bone marrow registry on Saturday, 19th of January, 2013 between 12pm to 3pm.

 

Their address is 8 REMINGTON LANE, HOUSTON, TX 77005. There will be a representative from GiveBlood.org present to answer your questions.
