Hi! We’ve got a couple of great programs coming up at Sugar Grove Nature Center!

Homeschool Programs, Fall 2021

Add an environmental education component to your homeschool curriculum this Fall with homeschool classes at Sugar Grove Nature Center! We'll dive in to each topic through hands-on activities, crafts, and games!

Wednesday, September 15, 2021: Monarch Madness
Wednesday, October 27, 2021: Nocturnal Animals
Wednesday, November 17, 2021: Illinois Trees
Wednesday, December 15, 2021: Winter Stars

Ages 5-9, 10:00am-12:00pm
Ages 10-15, 1:00-3:00pm

Cost: $15/child members, $20/child non-members

For planning purposes, the registration deadline for each class is the Monday prior to that session.

If you have a group of 10 or more, contact Mariah@sugargrovenaturecenter to set up a program for just your group!

Blacksmithing

If you have ever thought about trying your hand at pounding, bending, and twisting metal, this one-of-a-kind program is for you! In this hands-on program, you will work side-by-side with a blacksmith who will give you guidance and encouragement every step of the way. By the end of the day, you will have one or two small, completed projects to take home.

Anyone 16 and older is invited to register. In order to ensure a quality program and plenty of personal attention, there is a maximum of 12 participants per class.

Participants are asked to wear a long-sleeved shirt and long pants made of cotton or wool; no shorts or open-toed shoes, please. Safety glasses must be worn and will be provided if needed.

Fee: $50/members of Sugar Grove Nature Center or Illinois Valley Blacksmith Association, $60/non-members; lunch, tools, and materials included.

Registration and prepayment required one week before the class date, but these classes fill fast, so don’t delay!
