Fall Field Days at Sugar Grove Nature Center

Sugar Grove Nature Center is now offering small, in-person programs for kids in grades K-8! These drop-off classes will feature hands-on experiential nature activities to enhance learning and exploration in an outdoor setting. There will be a maximum of ten students, and masks will be required during activities when social distancing isn’t possible. Hand sanitizer will be available.

Seasonal Discovery

Grades: K-2
Tuesday, October 6; 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Fee: $20/member, $25/non-member 

What’s happening in Funks Grove? As summer turns to fall, animals begin to prepare for winter and the trees begin to change color and drop their leaves. We’ll hike the prairie and forests looking for signs of change and learn about the different ways that animals spend the cold months.

Great Migrations

Grades: 3-5
Wednesday, October 7; 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Fee: $20/member, $25 non-member

Where do birds go when they leave for winter? We’ll find out as we explore migration flyways and discover what dangers await them along the way.

Tremendous Trees

Grades: 6-8
Thursdays, 22, & November 5; 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Fee: $40/member, $50/non-member for the series 

Join us as we explore the world of trees! Participants of this 2-part series will learn about and identify several trees in the Funks Grove area and complete a leaf collection project!

 Bioblast Challenge

Grades: 3-8
Thursday, October 29; 2:00-4:00 p.m.
Fee: $20/member, $25/non-member 

Join us in a citizen science inspired program, where observations will be put to the test to see how rich in diversity the habitats of Funks Grove and Sugar Grove Nature Center are. During each class we will explore a different area of the Grove and try to get as many observations recorded as possible.
