My gggrandfather was Isaac Knight. He came to USA by ship sometime
around 1810 to 1820 via Philadelphia. He married Eleanor Brown (b. 1810
in NY) in 1841 in Missouri. Can anyone help me trace Isaac back to the
British Isles. Family lore states that he was possibly a shirttail
relative of Charles I but we all know about family lore, don't we.
Someone has sug-gested that a knighthood may have been bestowed on the
family and thus the name. Any clues that might produce some day light
would be appreciated. This is all of the information that I have been
able to produce to date.

>> Until January 1, 1820, the U.S. Federal Government did not require
require captains or masters of vessels to present a passenger list to
U.S. customs officials. Thus, as a general rule, NARA does not have
passenger lists of vessels arriving before January 1, 1820 <<
