Dear Members,

The 2012 Lunar New Year Celebration Dinner, "Dragon Roar", breaks new ground for SingaporeConnect in many ways.

We're working with three other organisers, making the event more diversified and broadening the base of members who may attend.

We have chosen a new venue - one that is closer to residents in San Francisco (respecting our members who have in the past wished for not all events to be "in Cupertino").

Here is a shot (from the Grand Palace web site) showing the, well, grandness of the space.

We even ensured that the date, Feb 4, is not on the date of the Superbowl.

We have also, something behind the scenes but worth mentioning, broadened the range and diversity of volunteers who are helping put the event together. The Singaporean contribution to the organising is possibly below half, in fact. We are going to introduce, for a matter, to some of our volunteers, Yu Sheng, a uniquely Singaporean tradition, for their first time. We are pleased to announce that this Yu Sheng, will be proudly sponsored in part by Shiok, the Singaporean-operated restaurant in Menlo Park. (We have strong reason to believe his mother's in charge of the recipe.)

At this stage in 2010 and 2011, the number of SingaporeConnect members who had signed up for the event, was over 35. The two events then, at 120 seats each, were sold out, and we had to process standbys on a case-by-case basis. It was disappointing to turn people away. We didn't want that to happen again this year, and have thus thought bold and went for a restaurant with capacity for up to 280 seats, if we can deliver.

Life has interesting turns. Despite the number of SingaporeConnect members at 334 (mailing list) and 275 (Facebook group) - with some overlap, we have only sold 24 tickets. (In fact, two of the other organisations involved have sold more tickets each than we have, so, fortunately, the event carries on).

We've long known that without an "Early Bird" incentive, everyone will hold off till the last minute before committing to a purchase.

If you want to come and join the community, support the organisers, and celebrate the Dragon Year:
It is time to help us, and make the event a success with your presence.

Please register.

Apparently the Dragon chased the Lion Dancers all the way till the end of the event, so we're going to start the event 30 minutes later at 5.30 pm instead of 5.00 pm.
