Hello SFU Omics,

I would like to know how many of you are interested in attending a seminar and trainee lunch that would be highly relevant to this group. I have invited Dr. Allen Day to give a departmental seminar on April 25th (11:00 AM). If there is enough interest, I would also like to hold a casual trainee lunch (over pizza?) at noon for informal discussions with Dr. Day. Given his diverse career experiences, he seems like a good brain to pick.

Dr. Day currently works at Google as a science advocate for its cloud platform. To quote his LinkedIn profile, he shows "how cloud-based solutions can address pressing problems in areas where DNA analysis and synthesis are key, specifically medicine, agriculture, and manufacturing." He originally did his PhD in human genetics at UCLA as a bioinformatician. In the meanwhile, he founded and co-founded a few companies in various industries.

The topics of the seminar is not yet finalized. I suspect it will have something to do with the application of Google's cloud platform to solve problems in genomics.

Cheers,
Bruno

Hello SFU Omics,

I would just like to follow up with my email from last week and kindly ask one last time for you to indicate your interest in a seminar (probably about genomics) by Dr. Allen Day, who works at Google, and potentially a lunch between trainees and Dr. Day. For more information, see my original email below. Thanks!
