Hi all,
Happy Spring Break! On a different note...

Professor Gupta is slotted to teach us Advanced Casework in the Fall.

A couple of us who have her for research now are concerned about this--from the little I know, her practice has been mostly macro level. We also know that Jerry volunteered to teach the class, but that they scheduled Gupta instead. Obviously there are a lot of politics at play.

I was wondering, second years, if you have insight into whether I'm underestimating Gupta's breadth of expertise. Otherwise, I might move forward with asking my classmates if they want to get together and try to talk to Eileen about getting the schedule changed (obviously, a long shot).

Please reply if you have an opinion!

Thanks so much,
Annie

Hey guys,
Hope your spring break is going well. Just wanted to add that Jerry told me about his offer to teach and the reaction he got from Eileen off the record. I didnt know this email was getting sent out. So if we could keep Jerry comments out of this thatd be great. Definitely dont want him to be in trouble!

On that note, when leah, angela, annie and i did meet with Eileen and asked her if somebody besides Gupta could teach it she flat out said no. I think we need to put something in writing and have people sign so she can see its not just four people concerned about gupta doing casework.

Hey Everyone!

I'm sure that whatever is said in these email strings can remain just between us students and I really appreciate you all reaching out. I can't speak for our whole cohort but I've definitely had experience with being frustrated with various components of the MSW program and can relate to your overall concern.

With that said, our cohort did not have Advanced Casework with Gupta so we probably can't speak to her clinical/direct practice experience in connection with the Advance Casework course. There were some students who had Gupta last semester for research so maybe they could offer you more information. I have not taken any classes with Gupta but would be happy to connect you to a 2012 MSW graduate, as that cohort did have Gupta for advanced casework and maybe someone could share their experience with you.

In any event, if there is anything that you as a cohort want to respectfully advocate for in regards to your education and well-being while at SFSU, I say do it! We may not succeed in every issue we challenge but I think it's important nonetheless and something we may want practice with as we go on to advocate for the people we work with as social workers.

Have a great spring break!

Jenna

Hi All,
I want to apologize to Allison for outing private information, and on that note also reaffirm that I also hope this conversation remains confidential and among students.

I also want to reaffirm that this email is for investigatory purposes, and I won't try to speak for the group in any formal capacity without bringing it to the whole group.

Thanks, guys,
annie
