This Sunday April 6th!
Dancing with the Divine
The Alchemy of Movemnet

with Alonzo "Zochi" Young

This introductory class explores the transformative practice and benefits of conscious movement. The course transforms universal teachings into simple and easy steps which you can apply - and from which you can experience direct results - in your life. Through a combination of active practices, such as applied philosophy, centering, setting conscious intentions, music, and the dance-like movements of Taiji, participants will develop the fundamental skills, knowledge, and sensitivity to connect and dance with the divine within. More...

Alonzo “Zochi” Young, teacher, practitioner, artist, and activist. Inspired by his personal experiences with what he defines as “Dancing with the Divine” - the spiritual connectedness and single embrace with oneness.  Over the years, his goal has been to share this knowledge and experience of the alchemy of movement. Hoping through the account and lessons of his experience others might rediscover and reconnect with the rhythm of life.

His roots are in social justice, dance, martial arts, Zen, and Taiji.  He has studied and practice Taiji for 35 years under the tutelage of T.Y. Pang and other Taiji masters throughout Asia and the United States. In addition, he is also a teacher and practitioner of Aikido, the Art of Peace. Both of these internal arts accompanied with a deep Zen practice have influence him in his life long quest to unravel the alchemy and discipline of these teaching - to the practical and everyday applications to promote health/well-being, community building and transformative social change.

Zochi has dedicated his life to providing communities with the tools and practices, so they may heals themselves and  create sustainable transformative social change in the world.  Projects he is currently developing are: Oakland’s World Taiji & Qigong Health and Wellness Day,  Mindfulness & Movement  after school program, Live Well, Movement for Health and Well-being at Lunch, and coming September “ The Journey of Wisdom & Movement Exchange in Africa”

Sunday May 4th
Revolution ~Gift:The Next Revolution Will Be Gifted
Re-visioning Wealth and Resource
A Community Picnic & Conversation In Celebration of
Dana Cafe's 1 :: year Anniversary!

This spring on May 4th Dana Cafe celebrates it’s one year anniversary with a community picnic and panel discussion themed around community commons, generosity, sustainability, the gifting revolution and the Bay Area’s momentous sharing movement. Come celebrate with us!  More...

Click to view Dana Cafe's year in photos and have a look at our beautiful community of change makers. YOU!

With support from the Sharing Cities Network and the Center for a New American Dream, local groups like Sudo Room, Oakland Wiki, Dana Cafe, East Bay Cohousing, Bay Bucks, Sustainable Economies Law Center, PLACE for Sustainable Living and other sharing organizations, projects and people throughout the East Bay are coming together with projects, events and things to do in celebration of the gifting revolution and our local sharing economy.

We are creating a collective calendar of events. If you know of or are a part of an organization or project with an event taking place in May that is generosity driven, is related to the sharing economy and/or contributes to a more sustainable future including projects focused on but not limited to eco-villages and radical co-housing, co-working, community commons and community space, cooperatives, food justice, urban farming and gardens, skill shares, renewable energy, economic empowerment, bike kitchens, the maker movement, hackerspace, mutual learning, lending libraries, car and bike shares, public archives and resources, volunteerism, self realization and transformation, open source tech, swapping or ??… add your event!

The deadline to be included on the printed calendar is April 6th. We ask that all participating projects and organizations be generosity driven (as opposed to explicitly profit driven) and make a commitment to collaboratively raise awareness about and actively support and promote the East Bay ShareFest calendar of events.
