Hi all!

There have been active development on sfShop lately. This is good! The
1.4 branch (actually symfony 1.3) is now working. Alecs will now start
working on Doctrine version. The Doctrine version will also include
other modifications than ORM change.

To keep everybody happy we need to organize the svn. I suggest we move
1.4 branch into trunk and create a new Doctrine branch.

Alecs will work on doctrine branch and Sbastien, you can continue
working on trunk for your project. Alecs merge changes from trunk into
Doctrine branch.

When Doctrine branch is stable we plan to move doctrine branch into
trunk. Before moving doctrine branch into trunk we can move trunk to a
propel branch. Anyone need to work with Propel can use that branch.

There will be quite a lot of changes for Doctrine, but we try to make it
as easy as possible to convert old projects to Doctrine regarding layout
and schema.

Please commit any changes to current 1.4 branch and let me know when you
are done.

Also, any comments or other suggestions about this?

I plan to use this strategy:

Andreas

I have a completion regarding what changes will have this new doctrine branch:

- Schema - has to be Doctrine Compatible
- Routing system - i will add prettier routes like /Music/ac-dc/Highway-to-hell :)
- the generator system will be Doctrine Based
- There will be added Doctrine behaviors to the schema
- The code will be rewritten (trying to get a cyclomatic complexity somewhere in 5-7 )
- i will try to add i18n catalogues better structured
- implement JQuery AdminDashPlugin
- implement sfDoctrineGuardPlugin
- caching (Query + partial )
- fixing some sql key / index problems
- take advantage of symfony 1.4 / Doctrine as much as possible

===
I have some other structure mods to do, but that will be done after we get a basic sfDoctrineShop working.

If anyone wants to contribute then i will gladly accept help from you. The main goal is to write a prettier and more powerfull system :)

Only one questions, is Doctrine really so good, to rewrite all
ORM-related code ?

hi!
Hmmmz, intresting your question ...
I will answer short.
I have begun to develop symfony and propel. After a year, i have switched to Doctrine.
On that time (when i have started to use Doctrine), Propel did not had hooks, and also, there was an easier way to build custom queries...

http://trac.symfony-project.org/wiki/ComparingPropelAndDoctrine

honestly, i think i might know more Doctrine developers than Propel.
We will keep both branches as much as it possible updated. If you do not want to use Doctrine, then you can still checkout or maintain a propel version...

Alecs

Hello,

Nice to hear that sfShop is again in development, and will have
Doctrine version.
I've proposed such switching 1,5 years ago ;)

I would like to help with doctrine branch. When it will be created?

Any time :)

As soon as someone is ready to make the first commit they can create.
But I will not create before, since changes are constantly added to trunk.
