For lovers of the Eastern Sierra, I just got this approved an as SR600. Alternative start point is Bishop.

I will be living in Deep Springs as of August so will probably ride it then. I can also provide support/water at that spot for others doing the ride.

Amazing looking route! I hope to do it someday.

I'm curious - why did you decide to have it start and end in Deep Springs, rather than somewhere lower elevation and transited through more, such as Bishop or Big Pine?

The Deeps Springs start-finish is in the message...about Jay living there soon...which invites a whole other question about how that came to be! Deeps Springs is very remote. Jay...are you going to be working at that very impressive little college there that can be a wonderful role model to other colleges worried about AI? Deep Springs doesn't have to worry about AI. Their students learn things bots can't do.

Yes, Bishop is a secondary start point for those who choose to stay there. It would change the nature of the ride for sure—your massive trek up White Mountain would be almost the last thing instead of the first thing.

But indeed I will be living at Deep Springs for the next 3 years, serving as the Natural Sciences Chair of the college. No AI, barely any internet.

Jay,
Congratulations on your position at Deep Springs - I’ve wanted to come up there for a long time! And I would ride this route!

1. Can I camp at Deep Springs ?
2. Have you considered using CA-6 up to Benton? It’s super beautiful and might avoid some of the busy sections of 395

Thanks for designing and offering this new SR600.

Eric

I didn’t know about Hwy 6—let me look into that.

One can’t camp right at DS but I have a guest room or there is dispersed camping all along 168. Alternative start in Bishop.
