Does anyone that uses SPD pedals had experience with using cleat shims to adjust for a leg length discrepancy?
I currently had a bike fit assessment and it was (again) noticed that I have one leg longer (or one shorter) than the other. This meant using a shim(s) of about 3mm on one shoe. Now I currently use Speedplay but had plans to put a set of Shimano SPD pedals on another bike to try out using the more walkable SPD shoes and cleats.
I've seen that SPD cleat shims are available but it seems to me that using them would place the cleat above the level of the shoe sole, thereby removing the sole from contact with the pedal and reducing the stabilizing force of the shoe on the pedal.
Am I missing something?
I've also been told (by the bike fitter) that the Speedplay pedal I use wheres out extremely fast and that causes a lot of loose rotation "wobble" such that the foot is not locked into a flat contact with the pedal surface. he suggested an SPD -SL type of pedal. I see his point but I'm reluctant to change as I have multiple bikes with SpeedPlays on them.
Any info is appreciated!
