Tandems on Amtrak Capitol Corridor trains?

Have any of you tried to take your tandem on the Amtrak Capitol Corridor train? Were you successful? What was your experience? Is the answer a hard-NO?

I find the Amtrak help documentation[0] to be very vague and my experience is that what is allowed comes down to what the conductor on a particular train will allow, and that usually they are very helpful and accommodating.

We have taken our tandem on the CC once and it worked but the train wasn’t crowded.

Yep, you can take your tandem on CC. They prefer the bike car, which is typically the last car on the train. And to make room for others.

I ushered 31 cyclists on CC last weekend, and everyone got through on one train with many bikes - which, IMHO are as bulky as a tandem.
