Garmin + Europe maps

Has anyone had any success loading Europe map into their Garmin 820/830 recently? Did you go with the high-detail OSM maps, or with the official Garmin map?

Yes, I've done that many times. See https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A82Ap_Wp-vs. A couple of things:

- If you have a newer unit, you definitely want the official Garmin maps since they are free and include a heat map that bbbike ones don't. However, they cost $$$ on older units like 820/830.

- When you click through to a country/region as explained in that video, you will be presented with four options. I always choose openfietslite. Not sure if others work equally well.
