Hi all!
for today's randomness...
short version: does anyone know of a blowhole on the Mendocino coast, north of Point Arena and (possibly) south of Elk?
when I search on "Mendocino blowhole" it comes up that there's one in Little River, and another at Russian Gulch State Beach, and I have a vague recollection of there being something hole-y behind a fence on the Mendocino headlands? - so maybe it's a semi-common
thing? for some reason I was thinking it would be more singular, but anyway...
backstory: back in the day my parents walked the coast of California, south to north, my dad doing the whole state, my mom switched to driving sag at some point (before Mendocino) - dad was on the shoulder on the west side of the road, and remembers being able
to see the hole from the road - did not have to make any detour to see it. tide/waves were not high enough that water was shooting up into the air, but he does remember seeing the waves go in and out. His recollection is that it was definitely north of the
bowling ball beach (which is by Point Arena), and possibly that he saw it on the same day (not as certain about that bit). Anyway, he's interested in revisiting it - seems like we'll be able to see some blow hole, even if it's not the exact same one, but just
curious if anyone might be familiar with that section of coast and have any info - was thinking that it might be something someone on a bike might notice.
Thanks!
- Megan
