Volunteers are key to our success to get everyone started on time, processed at Dimmick Campground and Finish Controls. Plus communicating rider updates to and from the controls. We had 28 riders last year. (28 riders are registered for this year’s ride).
Once again offering a limited number of all expenses paid trips to the GGB and Dimmick areas for SFR volunteers (including the snacks served at the finish control and gourmet meals at Dimmick).
This is the type of help we will need:
Event contact –We need one person that can be contacted with any updates from riders from before the ride starts till it closes at 10pm on 12th E.g. adds, no shows, DNF’s, redirect lost rider, etc. All you need is access to a phone, maps and computer would be helpful.
Start Control: 3-5 volunteers to do checkin and hand out brevet cards from 5:10am – 7:00am. Objective is to have all riders processed by 5:45am. A registered rider could help with this task and then participate in Rob’s preride prep talk at 5:45am and take the world famous SFR rider’s oath. We need one person to stay for a rider arriving late.
Dimmick – Need a lead for this stop plus a crew of 4. One person to get drop bags to Dimmick and then back to GGB on Sunday morning
Finish Control: The Finish Control is open a long time on 600km ride. We need 8 – 9 volunteers are needed to cover first, 2 -mids or last shift for 3 ½ - 4 hours on each shift. The start of the first shift will depend on the fastest rider finishing (start between 6:15am – 10:15am). E.g. 7:15 - 11:00, 11:00 - 15:00, 14:00 - 18:00 and 18:00 - 22:00.
NOTE: One option I would recommend is that a rider gets a friend of theirs not riding to come on the 12th to do a Finish Control shift and then drive their friend (rider) home. Finishing riders should not attempt to drive home immediately after finishing the ride. (Especially if ride is competed with no sleep).
One of the first shift volunteers has the tough task to get drinks/ snacks to feed the hungry and tired finishing riders. One of the last shift volunteers will need to get hot drinks and then equipment back to Rob Thus an East Bay person helpful for the last shift. All volunteers need to checkin riders (instructions to be provided later) - Shift times will be modified as needed.
Let me know by April 30th if you can help – I will send out an update then as to what roles remain to be filled – I would like to get roles filled by May 2nd.
All event related expenses covered –
When you respond indicating that you can volunteer please state your role preference and which shift if for the Finish control.
Also whether you want to ride the workers’ ride if one is arranged. Please state your preference/ availability dates for participating in a Workers’ ride.
Note: A workers Ride maybe planned but the date hasn’t been set. Workers’ ride has to take place within 15 days of the 11th. A better option would be a credit for another Bay Area brevet.
Plus clarify whether you plan to do the actual ride on the 11th if you plan to help at the start Control

Looking forward to your support to ensure our brevets are a success and for getting Randonnuers qualified for any long brevets in 2013!

Hi Richard,
I'd like to volunteer. I'd prefer to work the campground if there's a need for another person there. I have a truck with a 4-bike rack and room for 2 more in the bed. I have a six person tent, propane stove, lantern... lots of camping gear. I make a mean batch of home made sourdough pancakes, eggs any style.
I have the entire duration of the ride available so I can work any of the controls that need help. I'm also happy to help with emergency rider-pickup, if that's a thing on randonnees.
Eric
