The wind blown fog at the Golden Gate failed to achieve the status of actual rain, but retained the ability to obscure the sky and deprive the riders of the sight of the setting full moon. Still, most riders will get another shot at seeing a (near) full moon in the sky, this time rising in the sky as they return to the Strauss Plaza at the Golden Gate Bridge visitor center. There were 14 riders who checked in and then departed on what will for most be a 17 or so hour ride. One rider, who came in under 10 hours on the Healdsburg 300k just a few weeks ago could possibly return to the finish in daylight.
Should they finish, there are three riders on today's roster who would still be in the running for the Roy Ross Adventure Series award. We'll know more as the day progresses.
