The wind blown fog at the Golden Gate failed to achieve the status of actual rain, but retained the ability to obscure the sky and deprive the riders of the sight of the setting full moon. Still, most riders will get another shot at seeing a (near) full moon in the sky, this time rising in the sky as they return to the Strauss Plaza at the Golden Gate Bridge visitor center. There were 14 riders who checked in and then departed on what will for most be a 17 or so hour ride. One rider, who came in under 10 hours on the Healdsburg 300k just a few weeks ago could possibly return to the finish in daylight.

Should they finish, there are three riders on today's roster who would still be in the running for the Roy Ross Adventure Series award. We'll know more as the day progresses.

A follow up:

The Old Caz is a tough course, with the toughness mitigated by the stunning scenery at several points on the route. The toughness is felt by both the rides and the equipment, and this time the equipment affected by the rugged course included electronic devices and more than one rider had a little bit of trouble recording their ride. SFR HQ is still working through processing results but it looks like we have 13 finishers out of the 14 starters with two new records: the shortest elapsed time has been lowered to 11:52 (from 12:48) and the longest elapsed time has been raised from 19:59 to 20:00. Again, results are not official yet, but it is looking like we will have these changes to the records.

Wow, who broke 12 hours? That's impressive, congrats to them!
