For Sale: 1985 Miyata 1000 Size 56

It is time for me to part ways with my Miyata 1000, so I offer it up for sale here. This is a wonderful bike that Sheldon Brown refers to as "possibly the finest off-the-shelf touring bike available at the time."

I purchased this bike in 2015 from the son of the original owner and I have put just under 1000 miles on it since then. I have made some upgrades but have kept as much original as I could.

What I have changed/added:
All new cables and housing throughout
Nitto "Grand Raundoneur 135" Handlebars
Nitto Stem
Cane Creek Brake Levers
Velo Orange Gan Cru Headset
Front brake cable hanger
Velo Orange Elk Skin stitch on handlebar tape
Mavic Open Sport wheels with Shimano 105 hubs
Velo Orange Aluminum Fenders
Velo Orange Leather toe straps
New Chain
New seat clamp bolt
Shimano HG51 8 speed Cassette 11-28 (front crankset is a 50, 42, 28)
Panaracer Pasela 700x28c Tires with plenty of tread left
New Fork (I was involved in an accident where I ran into the back of a pick up and bent the original front fork. I had a new fork built to the same spec as the original, but added a fender mount under the crown.)
The frame and fork have been powder coated as close to the original color as I could get. When I got the bike the paint had quite a few scratches and chips.
All new decals

Everything else is original. The highlight of this bike is the Shimano deer head (RD-M700) derailleurs. They shift incredibly smooth.

I will include the original SR Stem, Sakae handlebars, and Araya wheels with the sale of the bike.

The Brooks saddle is not included. It is shaped to my butt, not yours.

The bike is located in Loomis, CA (about 20 mins east of Sacramento). I come to Oakland once a week for work and can bring the bike for your viewing and test riding pleasure. (Monday afternoons usually work best).

Please ask questions. Thanks for looking.

Asking price: $800
