Hey Folks,

I have a jersey and a bib in need of minor stitch repair. Have been unable to locate a professional to repair them. Tried a couple local (East Bay) shops (alterations & dry cleaners) but no luck. Both shops said they wouldn’t be able to stitch material that is that stretchy. Any suggestions on where I can get these very minor repairs made?

Thanks,

Ben

Ben,
Great question. I immediately tore a new pair of bibs and was saddened by it, and after 4x attempts of someone trying to repair the material (which I'll call 'spandex'), they haven't held up. The 4x were my wife at the beginning, REI specialist, and 2 seamstress shops in San Francisco.
My thinking at this point is to get a new pair of bibs, or jersey. I did keep my Gore bibs and wear them MTB'n under shorts for comfort.
Living in SF, I'd be curious if you do find an awesome seamstress (not sure if that's the correct term these days?) to stitch your kit.

Ben, I think that cycling apparel requires specialized repairs. When I damaged a brand new Ornot rain jacket, they recommended this place: https://mtnsoles.com/sewing-repairs-and-alterations/ Though, I ended up just fixing it myself with some gore tex patches. When I did some additional research, this company also came up: https://rainypass.com/

Just note, that the cost of repair may exceed the value of the item in question. The estimates came into about $35-50 for patching the jacket.

Rapha does do tear repair - i wonder though whether they locally source those repairs.

I've been using Tenacious Tape for repairing of bags - https://www.amazon.com/Gear-Aid-Tenacious-Repair-Fabric/dp/B07456SBM4 - this is what Apidura recommends.  They even have reflective tape.

Rapha definitely sends out for their repairs and they are quite slow - all of the repairs I've had done on my rapha gear have been quite solid and have lasted.

I had a dime-sized hole in a relatively new assos bib. I don’t have the receipt and store where I bought it went out of business so Assos will not fix it.
I bought this kit to repair and it held up well.  You can hardly see the patch. YMMV.
