Hi,
Does anyone know if this bike club is still organizing brevets for PBP qualification?
I tried to sign up for a 600K this weekend June 3rd but I haven't been able to contact the ride director Ryan Thompson for a few weeks now. Voice mail and emails have been left unanswered.

Hi Huy,

I fully expect Ryan will be running all the events on his calendar. He hasn't reached out to RUSA to cancel any and hasn't touched base with nearby RBAs either.

Unfortunately, my ride registration is not going through and I'm unable to contact Ryan using the contact info from RUSA.

Huy,

It has been my experience that the RBA can sometimes be slow to respond due to various responsibilities and commitments. Did you receive a confirmation of your Google form submission? If so, the RBA will follow up with emails regarding paying for the ride. This usually happens a few days before the event. He sent out a preliminary email a few days ago, please reference below and let me know if you have any other questions. I'm glad to help out any way I can (which may not be much).

Hello all:

(roster attached at the end of this message)

First off, thank you to those who have contacted me and followed-up with questions about the ride. Please understand that Santa Rosa is a small region, and we have minimal volunteer support. Also, the RBA himself is trying to complete his qualifying rides to participate in PBP this autumn.
I (we) thank you for your patience.

I am still working up the rider information document to provide you all information for the upcoming 600k next Saturday.

I am writing today to bring your attention to one crucial detail: whereas it is known that this route has 3.8 miles of gravel, there are several water crossings. Please see the attached photo (first attachment) for an example (NB: these are *expected* conditions; if it rains, all bets are off). If this is a non-starter for you, that is not a problem from our end: please just reply and let me know that you no longer wish to attempt this brevet.

This image highlights two details:
  1. The crossing is short, especially at the right side. The water is also quite shallow maybe 6" deep maximum.
  2. You can also see the state of the gravel road. It is quite smooth in most places, but does have some short areas along the edge where gravel can accumulate (as is typical for gravel roads)
PLEASE NOTE:
The image attached is representative of MOST of the crossings. There is one that does require the rider to dismount, and walk around the edge of the crossing.

The section of interest is between miles 91.0 and 94.8 of this route:

There is one final bit of information: IF (and I hope that this is indeed a capital "IF") the Winter Rains of 2023 are not yet done with us, then the water crossing as shown below will likely be wider (see second photo attachment). The soil is currently quite dry, and most of it should be absorbed, but do consider that the gravel section may be in far different conditions.

If any of this information, or the weather forecast is giving you second thoughts about this ride, please do not hesitate in replying and indicating that you would like to remove your name from my roster.
A 600k is not a simple task under the best of conditions. Adding inclement weather to the mix is not something to take lightly.

Thank you for your attention. Please remain on the lookout for more information soon.

Bon courage,
Ryan Thompson
