Yesterday, 24 riders checked in and rolled out of the East Beach parking lot for the Dillon Beach 200km. There are phrases that just don't sound right, but we are stuck with using 'warm fog' to describe some of the higher humidity experiences yesterday both in crossing the Bridge in the morning, and the lunch time(ish) stop in Dillon Beach. Outside of those two moments, it was clear, clear, clear all day. Winds were seldom nettlesome and at points downright beneficial.
With the clear skies there was also amazingly clear air and the view north along Tomales Bay made the fog bank hovering at the coast at Dillon Beach look stunning. Alas, with the great weather there was not always clean air. Mixed in with, and sometimes overpowering the smell of the sun warmed dried grasses along the side of the road, or the blooming flowers on the verges was the smell of unburned gasoline coming from the moving traffic jams caused by vintage foreign and late 60s American muscle cars. Luckily those cars and their drivers must have gotten to where they were going by mid-morning and we had more of the roads to ourselves again.
Next week: Freestone Breadrun 200km. Reg closes Wednesday night.
