Do any of you guys use an E3 pro? I'm trying to hook up a tail light, not a supernova one, and the tail light will not light up. The head lamp works fine. I think it's a grounding issue. Supernova says not to ground to frame. I've tried my front rack as a ground,  as that was the most convenient spot, but that's not working. Any suggestions on how to remedy the situation? Thanks

Pretty sure the supernova headlamps only work with supernova taillamps.  The tail lamp runs off the standlight circuit from the headlight, etc.

Hi, John. The E3 pro does not get along with all tail-lights. I've had no trouble with the B&M Toplight Line taillight. Try connecting your tail-light directly to the headlight wires, and if it's not illuminating try reversing the wires. If you're lucky your light will work with the wires in one direction or another. Try both directions even if they both seem to work; one may work better than another.

For reference, I've found the B&M tailights to generally get along with any headlight I've tried (Edelux, E3 Pro, Cyo, Luxos U). but sometimes polarity is an issue (the E3 Pro has a capacitor for the taillight so the taillight might illuminate while riding, but may cut off when stopped if the connection is reversed.. The Luxus might be similar).

Hi John,

I have an older Supernova E3 Pro.  It outputs 5 volts DC for the tail light.  Mine has just two cables: +5VDC and ground.  You need to make sure your tail light takes that as an input.  You also will need to make sure your tail light is not too powerful.  I believe the Supernova is designed for a 0.6W tail light and if your tail light uses more power than that, then your tail light will steal energy away from your headlight.  I built my own tail light and it works fine.  I had to add a larger capacitor in there to increase the amount of stand light time.

Hope that helps,
Phil

According to Peter White Cycles, Supernova lights convert the output to DC while most lights pass the AC coming from the generator to the taillight.  That's why only Supernova Taillights are compatible.

Don't see why you couldn't run them in parallel (which is what others are suggesting here, I think) but I always just use a battery taillight when I've got the Supernova light mounted.

Some AC taillights will work; just depends on how they rectify the AC current. As I said earlier, I've run B&M taillights with the Supernova E3 Pro.
