Howdy,
Good morning!  I'm new-ish (2 years) to road cycling, new-sh (1 year) to San Francisco, and in my late twenties.  Needless to say, I have become helplessly hooked on the sport!

Does anyone have any recommendations on cycling coaches in the Bay Area?  I love long distance cycling events with hills, and I am considering club road racing this year too. Either way, I want to ensure I channel my enthusiasm in the right direction, avoid injury, and straighten-out imbalances.

I am looking for a face-to-face coaching (at least initially).  My goals/interest include:
- Improve physiology
- Improve flexibility
- Correct muscle imbalances
- Improve hill climbing power
- Learn better recovery habits
- Improve pedaling technique
- etc

Thanks in advance for suggestions.  I apologize...this is a bit off topic on Rando forum, but I find there is a remarkable wealth of knowledge on here.

Cheers,

Paul's a great SF coach who also has a new book that might be helpful - I read the book and wish it had been available when I was starting out!

He also does body-work and understands injury prevention quite well.
Welcome to the sport! You'll never escape!

+1 on Paul.  He is a great coach.  I've seen his work, been privy to his insight, and know he understand the mechanics as well as the mental for all levels.

I highly recommend Thomas Chapple - I've been working with him for almost 2 years now, and have learned a lot!

Just throwing it out as an option:  Coach Duane Franks over at Trifiniti (http://www.trifiniti.com/)

I've worked with him on and off over the past few years.  While he does focus a lot o Triathlons, I've used him for a recent 12 hour Time Trial and for my 508 training.  He's been great in helping me at all aspects: nutrition/hydration, cross training, pedaling techniques, and so on.

Aaron,

I've seen Shawn Rosenthal in Berkeley work stunning transformations on a number of dedicated athletes over the past several years, and he's also just an all-around great guy. (Plus he's ripped my legs off trying to draft him in a fierce, direct headwind, and he wasn't cracking a sweat.)

Here's his site:

Worth having a chat to see if you click.
