Has anyone used Tifosi for prescription glasses for cycling? If you have prescription glasses for cycling and you deliberately chose another maker/vendor to exclude Tifosi, can you describe why?

For those whose primary eyeglass needs are for reading, did you get progressives or bifocals?

For reading and computer work - progressives. No need for cycling - yet.

I have prescription Oakley frames with transition lenses because my
vision plan at work (VSP) helped pay for them. I have to wear glasses
and I don't wear contacts. The frames I have look reasonably "normal"
and not like sports glasses, which is nice if you are having dinner or
something after a ride. And the transition lenses are much better than
carrying sunglasses and regular glasses on a ride where it might get
dark. But those Tifosi look like a good deal and if I have to pay for
my next pair in full I'd consider it.

I have many pairs of glasses from many providers. Overall my
experience with almost everybody's lenses has been good. The only
place I've ever had problems was Eyeconic, where I bought the Oakleys.
They messed up the rx twice or three times because they read the rx
wrong. It was subtle and I had to trust my gut that they didn't feel
right. Ironically the cheaper places require you to input your rx
manually, leaving less room for error. In my experience the cheaper
places skimp on the quality of the frame, but there are good deals out
there if you look. It's probably not feasible with sports glasses, but
lately I've been buying frames directly and then having the lenses
done by a site like rx-able.com. Transition or progressive lenses are
expensive whoever does them, as far as I can tell.

Hi Rob,

I only need glasses for reading. I wear Tifosi bifocal sunglasses for riding, and have for about 5 years. The bifocal took about 10 minutes to get used to and now I don't even realize it's there. I'm on my 2nd pair. The first pair got scratched up in a crash I had and I replaced them with the same model. I heartily recommend them.

On the rare occasions I need to read small writing as I ride - cue sheets or Wahoo for example - I use a pair of Solar shield over-glasses made by opticalproductsonline.com

Hi Rob,

I have not used Tiffosi RX glasses.

I am on my 3rd pair of RX multi-focus sunglasses and they are Oakley’s I got them online from SportRX. My current pair are progressives but my previous pairs were bi-focals. I think it is getting harder to find the later. I am farsighted so I really needed the reading portion or I couldn’t read my computer. For the bi-focals I had the reading portion reduced to a smaller area than normal. It was enough to read the computer or a menu but you wouldn’t want to read a book. I think I preferred the bi-focals because I didn’t have the varying focus as I moved my head. I only used the lower portion when I needed to. You do get used to the changing focus with progressives.

I do highly recommend SportRX as a vendor. They have specialist who are more knowledgeable about the issues that cyclist have and were easier to deal with than my local eyeglass shop.
