ok, some of you may have seen my thread over on Mud documenting the
build on my 80. So far my list of mods is:

OME heavy 2.5 lift
CDL switch
Viscous coupler replaced
E-Lockers rebuilt
ARB bullbar w/ Warn XD9000 winch
Lightforce 240 Blitz
Scan Gauge II installed with RAM mount
Nation Luna Intelligent Solenoid w/ Sears P D31M installed
Safari Snorkel
Started construction of Aluminum Drawer system (frame done)

awaiting installation:
Warn winch control box W/ custom bracket to put box inside bullbar
have the Tundra alternator bracket still need Tundra Alternator
Fire extinguisher
MIL black-out lights in bumpers

Ordered:
Metal Tech sliders
Silicone PHH replacement

So what should i tackle next? I'm eventually planning on adding an aux
tank and dual swing rear bumper but don't have all the funds for that
just yet.

I haven't had any problems with hi-temps until my last trip down
south, after installing the SGII my hottest temp reading was 209 while
driving around town in 100 plus temps. Should i do a coolant flush?
Replace T-stat? Add OEM fan in front of Radiator? I've heard of the
blue clutch fan mod but am not sure what it entails.

Hi WB,

When I put in my SGII, my temps around town were 204-216. This was on what
I believe was stock radiator, fan clutch, water pump, thermostat. First
thing I did was replace the fan clutch with a new one (blue) from Cdan. Its
called the blue one since part of it is painted blue. My water temp dropped
to 198-200. After I replaced the radiator with the older (new oem though)
brass style, thermostat, waterpump, all associated hoses, and flushed the
system several times, my water temp is now running at 186-188 according to
SGII. I am still running distilled water as I am going to put in the
coolant filter as shown in a mud post. I figured there was no sense in
wasting coolant or money.
So, with that being said, the fan clutch is a pretty easy job and will show
results if yours is on the way out. The PHH is a pain in the ass. That's
all I will say about that.
I am waiting (still and patiently)to get my truck back from the tranny/gear
shop so I can finish the coolant filter project, fab up the winch control
for my m12000 in the arb bar, and a few other odds n ends.
Is your 80 supercharged? I don't see there being a need for an auxiliary fan
if your cooling system is up to snuff.

no i don't have a supercharger yet. lol I wish. how much was the fan
clutch? I am going to replace the T-stat when i do the PHH and coolant
flush. Besides the dealership is there anywhere to get the red
coolant? Oh and i forgot the slee harness upgrades were done as well
as the HIR low beams, and George's LED's in the interior and Hella
supertone horns.

Are we ever going to have another meeting besides the first one?

Hmm, I don't recall what I paid for the fan clutch. Just call up CDan and
get one from him. I can root around and see if I can find the invoice, but
I don't think it was too much. As for the red coolant, I bought some at the
local dealership. I would imagine the Toyota red coolant is only available
at the dealerships. Think I paid 20 something per gallon, this was NOT the
premixed stuff.
How do you like the harness upgrade? Noticeably brighter? Was it worth it
in your opinion?
Same with the horns? Our stock horns are rather wimpy, I was looking at the
hella ones, but not sure how much of an improvement they would be.

yeah i'll just call dan, i need to get the front mud flaps as well and
some other odds and ends. As for the slee harness, i'm pretty happy
with it, the benefit is since its bigger wire it doesn't get as hot if
you do any headlight mods, which is necessary since i don't want
anything to melt and short while on the road. The HIR bulb
replacements are def brighter. The Supertones are very loud, which
helps in the city with all the traffic, as for sound they are almost
the same beep beep tone that the OEM have but much louder, if i had to
do it over again i would use some old (mid 50's) GM horns, much
deeper and just as loud. Those seem to get people moving better than
the beep beep, lol. The only problem with going with GM horns is a
place to mount them, the Supertones aren't much bigger than the OEM
and will fit in the stock location. I went today and bought some angle
stock and universal J-hooks so i can better secure the D31M battery,
drove right past the stealership and spaced stopping.
