Can anyone help?...
I'd like to know if I need to pay for a ticket when parking my bike in a
ticket zone in Helsinki. (Afterall, where would I put it?) I've seen a few
bikes parked in motorcycle spaces and in normal car spaces, both without
tickets.
If I park in the centre of town (in a non-motorcycle parking space), do I
need some sort of permit (I've seen these on cars), or is it free for
motorbikes anywhere?
If anyone could explain the legalities of 'filtering' (riding between cars)
in Finland, I'd appreciate it too.
I'd be greatful if anyone could help.
Kiitti,
Stuart
Dependening on where you park you may need a ticket. If you park on an
area where cars have the residents permits, you do not need a ticket (at
least where I live you don't - says so on the traffic sign).
In the centre of the city you might need a ticket. I have sometimes
parked my bike on the 'grey areas' i.e. if there is space somewhere a
little aside of a parking lot and I have not got a parking fine.
If you buy a parking ticket, take it with you. If you then get a fine,
you can make a complaint about the fine and show the valid ticket as
proof of having had one.

Not recommended. You can get a fine - I've got one. On one lane streets
you may overtake cars (within the speed limits of course), but where
there are several lanes, you are not allowed to ride between the cars.
Well, people do it and I am not sure how strickt the police are on this.
Hope this helps,
Harri
The tivcket comes in two parts, the actual ticket and a memory note.
Do the opposite what you'd doi with car, leave the note and take the
actual ticket. If you get fined go whine with the actual ticket,
should be no problem.
What most do is they purchase a used ticket from car next door if
they get a ticket but that would be illegal so ...
All this parking (and lane splitting) stuff is pretty thoroughly
explained in the FAQ of this newsgroup. It is in Finnish only but
if you get a collegue of yours to translate the critical bits you
get the hang of common rules and regulations. The URL for the FAQ is:

Opinions presented here are not necessarily the opinions of my employer
I tend to do lanesplitting every day I ride to and from work along Kehä I.
It should be legal as long as you have 1 meter of space between yourself and
the cars, both cars that is. As this is rarely possible then I tend to think
that it's against some law. I do it still, no fines (yet) for that... =8-)
