Hello,

I am new to networking. I am trying to setup a sFlow between my Linux system and a broadcom switch AS5712 which i am able to access using a VPN.
I tried installing the InMon sflow - Linux installer. After the run the command /bin/sh installer , where installer is my filename. I get $starting installer ... , nothing happens after that.
Also i wanted to some help as to how to configure my switch, i read the installation guidelines on the website but dint really get them. If you help me with this then it would be really great.
Thank you.

Best Regards,
Mamatha

Are you running the installer as root? It should tell you that you need to be root; but either way, it won't allow you to install if you are not, so can you first check that. Also, are you running in a headless environment (eg just logged in via a command line) or in a graphics environment? And do you have java installed?

For configuring your switch - have you looked at the instructions at http://inmon.com/products/sFlowTrend/help/html/appendix.switch-sflow.html? I'm not sure about your switch - is it an Accton, and does it actually support sFlow? You should be able to find some documentation on how to configure it through the CLI if it does support sFlow.

Hi Stuart,

Thank you for your reply. Yes i am in the root. I am using it via command line. I have installed Java too.

For my switch, Yes, it supports s flow.  But it seems like i have to install openswitch OS for it. Do you how i can use it to for sflow?

Bets Regards,

Hi Mamatha,

Can you try running the sFlowTrend installer, as root, with the command

/bin/sh installer -c

(ie with the -c option). That will run it is command mode, not graphical mode, which I suspect is the problem. Alternatively, you could use the rpm or deb file, depending on which distribution you are running.

OpenSwitch supports sFlow, and there's a post about configuring it at http://blog.sflow.com/2016/06/configuring-openswitch.html
